Size Guide

Last updated:

Choosing the right size is the easiest way to make a family gift feel just right: a blanket that actually reaches Grandpa’s feet in his recliner, a pillow that fills the corner of Mom’s sofa without crowding it, an ornament that stands out on the shelf. This guide lists every size we offer, using the same labels you see on the product pages, and explains how to pick between two sizes. Sizes are the listed nominal sizes of each item; small variations are normal for items made to order.

Sizes at a glance

  • Fleece blankets: 30 × 40 in, 50 × 60 in, 60 × 80 in.
  • Embroidered plush throw: 40 × 60 in, 60 × 80 in, 70 × 80 in.
  • Square pillows: 14 × 14 in, 16 × 16 in, 18 × 18 in, 20 × 20 in; lumbar: 12 × 20 in.
  • Ornaments: ceramic just under 3 in; wood about 4 × 4 in; glass 8 cm; acrylic 3.5, 4.5 or 5.5 in.

50 x 60 in50 × 60127 × 152One person on a sofa or in an armchair; the usual “throw” size

Our Little Sprout baby blanket comes in 30 × 40 in only. Personalised blankets carry their names on the front; on the smallest size a long list of names has less room, so for more than about eight names we suggest 50 × 60 in or larger.

Cover only or cover with insert?

“Cover only” is the printed cover with a zipper. Choose it when your parents already have inserts: measure the insert edge to edge and pick the same size. “Cover with insert” arrives ready to use. If you are unsure what they have at home, “Cover with insert” is the safer choice.

4. Ornaments

Ornament sizes by material
OrnamentSizeNotes
Ceramic roundJust under 3 in acrossPrinted on one side, gold hanging cord
Wood (house shape, money holder)About 4 × 4 in, 3 mm thickNatural grain, cord or ribbon
Clear glass round8 cm across, about 6 mm thickBevelled edge, hanging rope
Acrylic heart (size option)3.5 in, 4.5 in or 5.5 inDouble-sided printing

For a tree, 3–3.5 in ornaments sit comfortably among others. For a window or a shelf display, the 4.5 in or 5.5 in acrylic heart and the glass round stand out more.

6. How much text fits

For personalised items, “size” also means how much text the design holds. Each field on the product page shows its character limit, counting letters, spaces and commas. As a guide:

If your list does not fit, try the short forms the family already uses (“Liz” for Elizabeth), or email us and we will suggest the best option.

7. Sizes by recipient

  • Grandma in an armchair by the window: a 50 × 60 in blanket and a 16 × 16 in pillow.
  • Grandpa in a recliner: a 60 × 80 in blanket; a 12 × 20 in lumbar pillow for his back.
  • Parents with a big family sofa: two 18 × 18 in pillows, or 20 × 20 in on a deep sofa.
  • A new baby: the 30 × 40 in Little Sprout blanket.
  • A grandparent in a small apartment or care home: a 50 × 60 in throw and a 14 × 14 in pillow, which fit a single chair without crowding.
  • A couple who share the sofa every evening: the 70 × 80 in embroidered plush throw or a 60 × 80 in fleece blanket.

8. Centimetres for Canada, Australia and New Zealand

Our product pages use inches, because that is how the sizes are made. If you think in centimetres, multiply inches by 2.54, or use the approximate centimetre columns in the tables above. A few quick conversions: 50 × 60 in is about 127 × 152 cm; 60 × 80 in is about 152 × 203 cm; an 18 × 18 in pillow is about 46 × 46 cm; a 3 in ornament is about 7.5 cm across. When measuring a sofa or bed at home in centimetres, compare with these numbers and choose the size that is equal to or a little larger than the space you want to cover.

9. Gift set sizes

The Willow Cuddle Set has fixed sizes: the Love Grows Here blanket in 50 × 60 in and a matching 18 × 18 in pillow with insert. If you need a different blanket or pillow size, order the pieces separately — shipping is free either way. The Grandma & Grandpa mug pair is two 15 oz mugs.

10. About the listed sizes

The sizes on our product pages are the nominal sizes of each item. Pillow covers are made to fit an insert of the listed size; natural wood and items made to order can vary a little from piece to piece. These small differences are normal for items made to order and do not change which size you should choose. If an item arrives clearly different from its listed size, that is not normal: email us with a photo next to a tape measure and we will put it right.

11. Choosing colours and fills alongside sizes

Some products have options besides size. The Grandma’s Nest pillow comes in Linen, Willow Sage and Dusty Pink: linen suits pale or neutral rooms, sage brings a little green into grey or wood tones, and dusty pink warms up a white or cream sofa. Pillow fill is either “Cover only” or “Cover with insert”; the size of an existing insert decides the size of a cover-only order. Mug size, candle height, platter size and suncatcher size are all chosen on the product page with buttons, and the price updates as you choose.

12. Sizes for gifts sent abroad

Every size ships free to the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, so there is no shipping reason to choose a smaller item. Bigger blankets simply take a larger parcel. If you are sending a gift overseas and are unsure about a size, ask us before you order; an exchange is always possible within 60 days, but getting it right the first time saves the recipient a trip to post a parcel back.

13. Sizes we do not offer

We do not currently make blankets larger than 60 × 80 in (70 × 80 in for the embroidered plush throw), pillows larger than 20 × 20 in, or ornaments larger than 5.5 in. If you need a size we do not list, email us and tell us what it is for; we are always glad to hear what families need.

Most size questions we receive are answered by one detail: where the item will be used. A tape measure and two minutes in the room it is going to will usually settle it.

14. How to measure at home

  1. For a blanket on a sofa or chair: measure the seat width and the distance from the top of the back to the front edge of the seat. A throw that is at least as wide as the seat and long enough to drape over the back and reach the knees feels generous.
  2. For a recliner: measure from the top of the headrest to the end of the extended footrest. Most recliners need the 60 × 80 in size to cover a person fully.
  3. For a bed: lay a tape measure across the mattress top. A 60 × 80 in blanket covers the top of a single or double bed; on larger beds it works as a throw across the foot.
  4. For a pillow cover: measure the existing insert flat, seam to seam, and choose the same size.
  5. For a window suncatcher: measure the narrowest side of the pane and choose a size that leaves a margin all around.

15. Between two sizes

  • Blankets: choose the larger one for recliners, tall people, people who feel the cold, and for blankets carrying many names.
  • Pillows: choose the size of the existing insert for “Cover only”; for “Cover with insert”, 18 × 18 in is the safe middle.
  • Ornaments: choose larger for display on a shelf or window, smaller for a busy tree.
  • Mugs: choose 15 oz for someone who refills often.

16. If the size isn’t right

You can exchange any item for another size within 60 days of delivery, including personalised items, and the return label is free. Tell us the size you would like instead and, for a personalised item, confirm the names again. If the new size costs more or less, we confirm the difference before anything changes. See Returns & Exchanges, or change the size within 24 hours of ordering on Cancel or Change an Order.

17. Questions about sizes

Tell us where the item will live — “Dad’s brown recliner”, “a narrow window seat”, “a king bed” — and we will suggest a size. Email [email protected]; we reply within 24 hours on business days. More answers in the FAQs.
