Intellectual Property Policy
Last updated:
This Intellectual Property Policy explains what belongs to Gift Willow on giftwillow.shop, what you may and may not do with it, how we respect other people’s trademarks and designs — including in the names and words customers type for personalisation — and how to tell us about a concern. It sits alongside our DMCA page, which covers copyright notices, and our Terms of Service.

1. What belongs to Gift Willow
The following are owned by Gift Willow or used under permission, and are protected by intellectual property law:
- Our name and logo: the words “Gift Willow” and the willow-branch “gw” monogram.
- Our designs: illustrations such as the Love Grows Here willow tree, the pressed-leaf family tree, the willow-twig nest, the porch swing under a willow, and the layouts of our personalised items.
- Our product images: the pictures of our products shown on the site.
- Our words: product descriptions, page texts, guides and the wording printed on finished designs.
- The site itself: its look, layout, graphics and organisation.
2. What you are welcome to do
- Browse the site and print pages for your own personal, non-commercial use — for example a product page to show a relative.
- Share links to our pages and products by message, email or on social media.
- Photograph and share the Gift Willow item you received in your own home, with your own family.
- Quote a short sentence from our pages with a link back to the original page.
3. What we ask you not to do
- Copy, reproduce or resell our designs or product images, including on marketplaces, print-on-demand sites or other stores.
- Use our name, logo or anything confusingly similar in a way that suggests you are connected with us.
- Copy our product descriptions or page texts into another website.
- Scrape or bulk-download the site with automated tools, other than normal search engine indexing.
- Create new products based on our designs without our written permission.
If you would like to use something in a way not listed here — a school newsletter, a community event, a blog review — email us and ask. We are often happy to say yes.
4. Our name and logo
“Gift Willow” and our willow-branch monogram identify our shop. Please do not use them for your own products, accounts or domain names, or in advertising that could make people think you are us or are working with us. Fair, accurate references — such as writing that you bought a blanket from Gift Willow — are fine.
5. How we respect other people’s rights
Gift Willow sells original, generic designs for families. We do not sell products that feature:
- cartoon, film, television or video game characters;
- sports teams, leagues, clubs, colleges or their logos and colours used as branding;
- celebrities, public figures or their likenesses;
- company names, product brands or slogans owned by others;
- artwork, photographs or text copied from other creators.
Our designs draw on common subjects — trees, leaves, nests, homes, family words — expressed in our own way. When we are unsure whether a design or phrase could conflict with someone else’s rights, we leave it out.
6. Personalisation text and other people’s rights
Customers type names, family names, years and short messages into our product fields. That text is yours, and we make it exactly as you type it. To protect you and other rights holders, we do not produce personalisation text that uses:
- brand names, team names, character names or other trademarks;
- long quotations from songs, films, books or poems;
- slogans or catchphrases associated with a company or a show.
Family nicknames, first names, surnames, dates and your own words are always welcome. If an order includes text we cannot produce, we email you to agree different wording, or cancel the order with a full refund if you prefer. Our product pages never suggest or prefill brand, team or character names.
7. Personalisation examples
| Requested text | Can we make it? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| “Nana” and a list of grandchildren’s first names | Yes | Family names and nicknames are yours to use |
| “The Harpers · est. 2009” | Yes | A surname and a year |
| “Love you to the moon and back” | Yes | A common short phrase used by many families |
| A character’s name with the character’s catchphrase | No | Characters and catchphrases belong to their owners |
| A team name or a team nickname as “Grandpa’s team” | No | Team names and logos are trademarks |
| Four lines from a famous song | No | Song lyrics are protected by copyright |
| A short poem you wrote yourself | Yes, within the field’s character limit | It is your own work |
When something falls in between, we email you before production with a suggestion. Changing the wording is free, and if you prefer to cancel, you receive a full refund.
8. Photos of your gift
You are always welcome to photograph the Gift Willow item in your home and share it with family and friends or on your own social accounts. If you tag or mention us, thank you. We will never repost a photo of your family or a child’s name without asking you first, and we will never use your photos in advertising without your written permission.
9. Permission requests
Writers, teachers and community groups sometimes ask to use one of our product images or a short passage from a guide. Email us with what you would like to use, where it will appear and for how long. We usually answer within 24 hours on business days. Permission, when given, applies only to the use described and does not allow changes to the image or text.
10. How to report an intellectual property concern
If you believe something on giftwillow.shop infringes your trademark, design or other intellectual property right, email [email protected] with the subject line “IP concern” and include:
- your name and contact details, and your relationship to the rights owner;
- the right you believe is affected — for example a trademark registration number and country, or a description of the design;
- the URL of each product or page concerned;
- a short explanation of why you believe it infringes, and a statement that the information in your message is accurate.
For copyright in particular (artwork, photographs, text), please use the six-element notice described on our DMCA page.
11. What happens next
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Received | We acknowledge your message within 24 hours on business days. |
| Review | We look at the product or page and the right you describe. If we need more information, we ask. |
| Decision | If the concern is valid, we remove or change the product or content and stop producing it. |
| Open orders | Customers with open orders for a removed design are told and refunded in full. |
| Reply | We tell you what we did and why. |
12. If you think we removed something by mistake
If you are a customer and an order was cancelled because of personalisation text we could not produce, and you believe the text was your own original wording, reply to our email. We will look again and explain our decision. We would rather spend a few minutes talking it through than cancel a gift unnecessarily.
13. Ideas and suggestions
We love hearing ideas from families — a design for a new grandparent, a phrase your grandmother always said, a product you wish existed. If you send us an idea, please know that we may already be working on something similar, and that sending it does not create an obligation for us to use it or pay for it. We will never use your family’s names or personal stories in a design without asking you first.
14. Our designs elsewhere
If you see Gift Willow designs, photos or texts on another website, marketplace or social account that is not ours, please send us the link. Copies can mislead customers into buying something that is not from us, and we want to protect the families who trust our designs.
15. Why we keep our designs generic
Many shops sell gifts decorated with famous characters or team logos. We chose not to. Licensed products need permission from the owner of the brand, and unlicensed copies harm the creators behind them and can disappoint the families who buy them. Our designs are built around things every family shares — a tree, a home, a nest, a set of names — so that a blanket made for a grandmother in Wyoming makes as much sense as one made for a grandfather in Wellington. It also means we never have to tell you that a gift you loved has disappeared from the shop because of a licence that ran out.
16. If you find a shop that looks like ours
- Note the address of the website or listing and take a screenshot of the page.
- Do not place an order or enter payment details there if you are unsure who runs it.
- Email the link and screenshot to [email protected] with the subject “Lookalike”.
- Remember that our shop is at giftwillow.shop and that we never ask for payment by email.
17. Our commitments in short
- We create our own designs and keep them generic, so they suit every family.
- We never suggest or prefill brand, team or character names in personalisation fields.
- We respond to every intellectual property concern within 24 hours on business days.
- We remove material that infringes and refund any open orders affected.
- We ask before using a family’s names, photos or stories anywhere.
These commitments apply to every product and page on giftwillow.shop and to every personalised order we make.
